Our story

Sweden has a long history of sustainable development. With cutting-edge solutions within areas such as waste management, biogas and mobility, water, air and district heating & cooling, Sweden is leading the way to a more sustainable future.

The story of Smart City Sweden began in 2016, with the aim to export solutions within environmental technology. In 2018, the project expanded to focus on urban planning, digitalization and social sustainability, in addition to the previous areas: mobility, energy, climate and environment.

Since the opening in May 2017 in Hammarby Sjöstad, a sustainable urban district in central Stockholm, Smart City Sweden has welcomed over 3600 visitors from 43 different countries, all interested in implementing solutions within one or several of our focus areas.

Today, Smart City Sweden keeps developing and the interest in visiting the platform is constantly increasing. Eight government agencies and six regional offices contribute with expertise in different focus areas, as well as adding relevant reference cases and companies.
